Reginald J. Mitchell is an Associate Instructor and Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Law. He teaches courses including Secured Transactions, Legislation, Wills and Estates, Payment Systems, and Sales. He also oversees compliance reporting for the American Bar Association and serves as faculty advisor to the Student Bar Association and the FAMU COL Intramurals Club.
His educational background includes a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Minnesota Law School (1996), a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Management Information Systems from the University of Minnesota’s Curtis L. Carlson School of Management (1995), and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and Political Science from Florida A&M University (1988).
Mr. Mitchell’s research and professional interests center on Legal Education, Bar Preparation, Civil Rights and Discrimination, and Legislation. His scholarly work examines the historical challenges and opportunities in Black legal education at HBCUs, advocating for systemic improvements to increase diversity in the legal profession.
His sole scholarly article, published in 2017, explores the legacy of segregation in legal education and proposes strategies to strengthen HBCU law schools as vital pipelines for underrepresented students. The work combines historical analysis with policy recommendations, focusing on equity, access, and institutional support.

He has not received external research grants but has led institutional initiatives and compliance programs. He mentors students and has advised student organizations, contributing to student development and professional engagement.
He is actively involved in the FAMU Rattler Boosters, Inc. as General Counsel and the FAMU National Alumni Association as Recording Secretary. He previously served as Assistant General Counsel for the Florida Department of Children and Families and as an Associate Attorney at Parks and Crump, LLC, focusing on personal injury and tort litigation.
