Reem Bassiouney

Reem Bassiouney is a Professor and Chair of Applied Linguistics and Educational Studies at the American University in Cairo. She holds a doctorate from Oxford University and has taught at universities in the UK and US, including Cambridge, Oxford, and Utah.

• Research Interests: Sociolinguistics, language and identity, code-switching, diglossia, language policy, and discourse analysis.
• Publications: Author of key works like Arabic Sociolinguistics, Language and Identity in Modern Egypt, and over 15 academic papers focusing on sociolinguistic dynamics in Egyptian contexts.
• Awards: Recipient of the King Fahd Prize for Arabic Literature Translation (2009) and the Sawiris Literary Prize for Best Novel (2010).
