Reece Mills

Reece Mills is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia. He holds two Australian Research Council (ARC) grants investigating teacher shortages, totaling AUD 957,677. His research focuses on Earth and Environmental Science Education, conceptual change, and teacher education. Previously, he was a secondary science teacher and has held roles such as Course Coordinator for the Bachelor of Education (Primary) and School Research Ethics Advisor.

Education: Doctor of Philosophy (Education) and Bachelor of Education with Honours, both from James Cook University.

Research interests include science education, teacher self-efficacy, and education for sustainable development. He has published widely on STEM career aspirations, teacher shortages, and pedagogical approaches in science education. His work emphasizes socially and ecologically sustainable futures through education.

Awards include the 2017 Faculty of Education Evidence-based Practice Award for curriculum innovation. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Committee for Teaching Science and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Teaching responsibilities include units like Science in Primary Education and Science Primary Specialisation. He has received teaching awards, including QUT’s STARS Award (2016) and Vice Chancellor’s Performance Award (2016).

His current supervisions address teacher self-efficacy and career change pathways into teaching. He is part of projects funded by ARC grants exploring policy and teacher retention in hard-to-staff schools.
