Rebecca L. Mitchell

Dr. Rebecca L. Mitchell is an Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior at the University of Colorado Boulder's Leeds School of Business, where she holds the Stone Family Faculty Scholar designation. Her research focuses on three interconnected areas: how internal comparisons shape organizational outcomes, how time influences team processes and effectiveness, and how organizations can improve the implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.

Her research interests span several key domains in organizational behavior. She examines how social comparison processes affect individual and team performance, investigating when comparisons are motivating versus detrimental. Her temporal research explores how time perspective, pacing, and coordination influence team dynamics and outcomes. In the DEI space, she moves beyond traditional training approaches to identify evidence-based practices that create meaningful organizational change. Her work combines rigorous methodological approaches with practical relevance for organizational leaders.

Before entering academia, Dr. Mitchell gained practical experience as a healthcare consultant and university fundraiser, providing her with real-world organizational insights that inform her research. Her educational background includes an undergraduate degree in Organizational Studies from the University of Michigan and a PhD in Organizational Behavior from Michigan State University. Outside of her academic work, she enjoys hiking, rock climbing, and sewing.
