Rebecca Hardin is Associate Professor of Natural Resources at the University of Michigan's School for Environment and Sustainability, with affiliations at the African Studies Center. Her research examines human-wildlife interactions, environmental justice, and governance in Africa's Congo Basin, with additional projects exploring health-environment linkages and corporate environmentalism.
Hardin coordinates the Environmental Justice Certificate Program and co-led the STEM Africa Initiative. Her forthcoming book 'Making Concessions' analyzes African environmental governance through historical institutions of resource distribution. Current projects include water resource assessments across Africa and sustainability case studies for engineering education, developed through collaborations with public health and engineering colleagues.
Recent publications focus on sustainability pedagogy development, nutrient recycling systems, zoonotic disease ecology, and the political economy of resource extraction. Her research employs ethnographic and interdisciplinary approaches to environmental governance challenges.
