Rebecca Gould

Rebecca Ruth Gould is Professor of Islamic World and Comparative Literature at the University of Birmingham. She is a scholar, translator, and editor whose work bridges literary studies, political activism, and cross-cultural translation.

Her research interests focus on Translation Studies, Comparative Literature, and Islamic World Studies, with particular attention to how literary practices intersect with social justice, human rights advocacy, and resistance to authoritarianism.

Gould is best known for her edited volume The Routledge Handbook of Translation and Activism (2020) and her monograph Writers and Rebels: The Literatures of Insurgency in the Caucasus (2016). Her translations include works like After Tomorrow the Days Disappear (2016) and Prose of the Mountains (2015).
