Rebecca DeWan is the Libra Assistant Professor of Choral/General Music Education at the University of Maine, affiliated with the School of Performing Arts. She holds a Ph.D. in Music Education with a choral conducting cognate from Michigan State University, alongside a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Choral Conducting from the University of Southern Maine.
Research interests focus on trauma-informed and equity-centered education, bridging academic research with classroom practice. She explores gender and identity dynamics in music education, advocates for contemporary a cappella, and emphasizes preservice teacher preparation informed by her extensive K-12 teaching experience.
