About
Rebecca R. Conry is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Colby College, where she has been a faculty member since 2000. As Associate Provost for Academic Programs (2025–present), she contributes to institutional academic leadership. Prof. Conry teaches courses in General Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Inorganic Laboratory Studies, among others.
- B.S. in Chemistry, Eastern Washington University (1986)
- Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry, University of Washington (1991)
- NIH Postdoctoral Fellow, Johns Hopkins University (1991–1993)
Her research focuses on bioinorganic and organometallic transition-metal chemistry, particularly exploring catalytic systems and biomimetic complexes. Her work combines synthetic, structural, and mechanistic studies to investigate metal-ligand interactions and their applications in catalysis, including aziridination and cyclopropanation of olefins.
Prof. Conry has secured significant external funding, including grants from the National Science Foundation and the Research Corporation, to support her research and the acquisition of a CCD Single Crystal X-ray Diffraction System for collaborative institutions in Maine. She has advised multiple senior theses at Colby and led research projects involving undergraduate students in advanced synthesis and characterization techniques.
Her X-ray Diffraction Center at Colby serves as a regional hub for structural analysis, equipped with a Bruker SMART APEX CCD system and Rigaku/MSC cryogenic technology. The facility is shared by Colby, Bates, and Bowdoin Colleges and the University of Maine system.
