Rebecca Bozym is a Professor and Chair of the Natural and Behavioral Sciences Division at La Roche University, where she has been affiliated since 2011. She holds a B.S. in Chemistry from La Roche University (2001), a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Maryland School of Medicine (2007), and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (2008-2011).
Her research focuses on zinc ion dynamics in cellular stress responses, antiviral signaling mechanisms, and viral entry pathways into polarized cells. Notable work includes developing a fluorescent biosensor for zinc ions and elucidating roles of calcium signaling in coxsackievirus infection.
Bozym has received awards including the 2013 Brother Gregory Nugent Award for Excellence in Teaching and the 2014 Distinguished Alumni Circle Award. Her recent publications (2010-2012) span topics like mitochondrial zinc regulation during ischemia/reperfusion injury and focal adhesion kinase's role in immune defense against viral pathogens.
