Rebeca Fernandez is the Writing Center Director and Professor of Writing and Educational Studies at Davidson College, where she has served since at least 2012. She is affiliated with the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Writing Program, and the Educational Studies department.
- Education: Ed.D. and Ed.M. from Harvard University; B.S. from Boston University
Her research focuses on the language development and academic socialization of linguistic minorities across the lifespan. She has conducted longitudinal studies on the rhetorical and linguistic development of advanced multilingual writers (with Shireen Campbell) to improve support systems for bilingual students. Her work spans bilingual education, reading programs, vocabulary intervention, and adult literacy, particularly for migrants and minoritized populations.
At Davidson, she teaches courses including WRI 101: The Linguist’s Dilemma, WRI 101: Language and Identity, and EDU courses on second language acquisition, language policy, and literacy. She also contributes to practice-oriented research and professional development workshops for adult literacy educators.
