Raymond Hsu

Raymond Hsu, MD, MAS, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. He specializes in nephrology and serves as Director of the Glomerular Disease Program at UCSF Health. His expertise includes treating conditions such as minimal change disease, FSGS, membranous nephropathy, and renal complications of cancer therapies (onco-nephrology). He also manages patients requiring chronic renal replacement therapies like hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.

Dr. Hsu’s research focuses on the epidemiology and outcomes of acute kidney injury (AKI), using large datasets to study CKD progression and glomerular disorders. He leads multi-center observational studies and has contributed to clinical guidelines on AKI management. His educational roles include training physicians and lecturing nationally/internationally.

His research interests include AKI’s impact on long-term kidney function, blood pressure management in CKD, and disparities in kidney health. Recent publications highlight novel therapies for AKI, PET imaging for immune-mediated kidney injury, and pediatric dialysis outcomes.
