Raymond Funk

Raymond Funk is a Professor of Chemistry at The Pennsylvania State University, affiliated with the Department of Chemistry under the College of Science. He holds office in 431 Chemistry Building, University Park, PA 16802.

Education:

• B.A. from University of Kansas (1973)
• Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley (1978)

His research spans synthetic methodology development, focusing on pericyclic reactions, ring construction, and asymmetric synthesis. He has made significant contributions to the total synthesis of natural products, particularly in terpene and alkaloid chemistry.

Recent publications emphasize organic reaction design, including studies on acrolein synthons (2000), chiral auxiliaries for conjugate additions (1999), and photochemical DNA cleaving agents (1996). His work consistently bridges synthetic innovation and natural product exploration.
