Ray Vanderby

Ray Vanderby is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also holds appointments in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, where he directs the Orthopedic Research Laboratories, and maintains affiliate appointments in the Departments of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics, as well as Materials Science and Engineering.

His research focuses on orthopedic tissues such as bone, ligament, tendon, and cartilage, with an emphasis on wound healing and regeneration. Key methodologies include:

• Biomechanical functional characterization
• Microstructural morphology and compositional analysis
• Biological sciences (cell and molecular biology, developmental biology)
• Ultrasonic wave propagation studies for clinical characterizations

Dr. Vanderby integrates engineering and biological approaches, utilizing experimental, analytical, and computational mechanics to address orthopedic challenges.
