Ray Recht is a Professor of Theatre Arts and coordinates the Design/Tech Theater Program at Marymount Manhattan College. He is an accomplished scenic designer with extensive professional experience on Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional, and international stages, as well as in film, television, and commercials.
Education:
- B.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon University
- M.F.A. from Yale University
His research and professional practice focus on scenic and production design, blending naturalism with imaginative elements to reflect narrative and memory in theatrical spaces. His design for Dancing at Lughnasa was praised by Terry Teachout of the Wall Street Journal as a model of creative taste and emotional resonance.
Ray Recht is a proud member of United Scenic Artists-Local 829 and maintains an active professional profile alongside his academic work.
He has contributed to over 240 regional theatre productions and has designed for venues including the Pittsburgh Public Theater, Florida Repertory Theater, Asolo Theatre, and internationally at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and Wien Staatsoper Ballet. His media design work includes feature films, TV shows, and over 200 commercials.
