About
Ravi Rungta is an Associate Professor at Université de Montréal, holding dual appointments in the Faculty of Dental Medicine (Department of Stomatology) and the Faculty of Medicine (Department of Neuroscience). As a Canada Research Chair in Neurovascular Interactions, he leads the Rungta Lab, where he combines advanced imaging techniques (e.g., two-photon microscopy, functional ultrasound) with electrophysiology and molecular manipulations to study brain function.
- Laboratory Focus: Neurovascular coupling, pericyte physiology, neuron-glia interactions, and hemodynamic imaging
- Affiliations: CNS Research Group (GRSNC), Interdisciplinary Centre for Research on the Brain and Learning (CIRCA), Réseau Québécois de Recherche sur la Douleur (RQRD)
His research bridges animal and human brain imaging by elucidating the cellular basis of fMRI signals, with applications in sensory processing, pain mapping, and stroke pathology. Recent work emphasizes pericyte calcium signaling and multi-scale neurovascular dynamics.
Scientific Recognition:
- Canada Research Chair in Neurovascular Interactions
- Major grants from Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, and Fonds de recherche du Québec
As a graduate program director, he has supervised M.Sc. students in Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering, while leading multi-institutional collaborations in cerebral hemodynamics and neurodegenerative mechanisms.
