Raquel Goebel

Raquel Goebel is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She holds a Law Degree and Tax Law specialization from UNIFOR (Brazil), and a Master's in Human Resource Management from Troy University. Her expertise spans Brazilian culture, law, and education, with a focus on Portuguese language pedagogy and curriculum development.

Her research interests include innovative teaching methodologies, cross-cultural communication, and integrating Brazilian legal and business practices into educational frameworks. She has developed immersive language programs, such as the Illinois Portuguese Language Connection (IPLC), which earned the 2017 AOTP Best Educational Initiative Award. She is trained by ACTFL to conduct Oral Proficiency Interviews (OPI) and evaluates language proficiency for FLAS and Fulbright scholars.

Goebel actively collaborates with the Brazilian community, organizing cultural events to bridge campus and local networks. She teaches advanced Portuguese courses, including 'Readings in Portuguese: Doing Business in Brazil,' and contributes to the Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies.
