Dr. Rao Kotamarthi serves as Senior Scientist and Chief Scientist in the Environmental Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory, with complimentary academic positions as Senior Fellow at the Center for Advanced Science and Engineering (CASE) and Expert at the Energy Policy Institute (EPIC) at the University of Chicago.
His educational credentials include:
- PhD in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from the University of Iowa
- Certificate in Strategic Laboratory Leadership from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business
Research focuses on regional/global climate modeling, atmospheric aerosol dynamics, and environmental HPC applications. He pioneers downscaling techniques for high-resolution climate projections, integrating applied mathematics to solve complex air quality and energy challenges with emphasis on wind energy systems.
As principal investigator for DOE-funded climate and wind energy initiatives plus private sector collaborations, he directs large-scale environmental modeling projects. His service includes IPCC Assessment Report 2 contributions and peer review panels for DOE, NSF, and NASA.
