Ranthild Salzer

Ranthild Salzer serves as a Lecturer in the Department of English and American Studies at the University of Vienna, teaching courses across multiple semesters including upcoming 2025W and 2025S terms.

Her research centers on critical intersections of culture, gender, and media, with particular emphasis on:

• Third Wave Feminisms and female action hero representations (e.g., Buffy Summers, Katniss Everdeen)
• Gender fantasies in film/TV/game constructions of female protagonists
• Cultural functions of villainous characters in comics and television
• Detective fiction evolution from armchair sleuths to hardboiled narratives
• Adaptation studies of dystopian science fiction, notably Philip K. Dick's Hollywood legacy
