Randall Hawes

Brass Lecturer Randall Hawes is a retired bass trombonist from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (1985-2020) and currently teaches at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University. He has also served as a guest bass trombonist with the Cleveland Orchestra (2020-2024) and performed with prestigious ensembles like the World Orchestra for Peace and Saito-Kinen Orchestra.

• Studied with William Rivard (Central Michigan) and Byron B. McColloh (Carnegie Mellon University)

Awards & Honors:

• Tanglewood Music Center Fellowship

Performance Legacy: Hawes has recorded over 30 albums with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and collaborated with pianist Kathryn Goodson on four bass trombone and piano albums. He has participated in international tours and recordings under conductors like Sir Georg Solti and Valery Gergiev.
