Randal Zhou

Randal Zhou, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery (Bariatric, Minimally Invasive) and Medical Director of the Bariatric & Minimally Invasive Surgery Program at Yale School of Medicine. He completed his MD at Rush Medical College (2014) and residency at Rush University/John Stroger Hospital (2019). After a fellowship at Yale New Haven Hospital (2020), he served at the University of North Carolina before returning to Yale. His expertise includes bariatric surgery, hernia repair, and foregut diseases, emphasizing minimally invasive techniques like laparoscopy and robotics. He collaborates across specialties to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.

Research interests focus on surgical outcomes in bariatric and hernia procedures, utilizing large databases like MBSAQIP and ACHQC. He has published on postoperative complications, robotic vs. laparoscopic approaches, and predictive models for weight loss. Clinical roles include leadership in the Center for Weight Management and Yale Medicine’s Bariatrics program.
