Ramon P. DeGennaro

Ramon P. DeGennaro is the Haslam College of Business Professor in Banking and Finance at the University of Tennessee. He holds editorial roles with journals such as the Journal of Financial Research and the Journal of Private Enterprise. His prior roles include Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Banks of Atlanta and Cleveland, Tennessee Bankers Association Scholar, and William B. Stokely Scholar at Tennessee. He was also a Reading Specialist at Mayfield High School, Ohio, before entering academia.

Dr. DeGennaro earned a Ph.D. in Finance and Economics from The Ohio State University. His research focuses on financial markets and institutions, financial regulation, small-firm finance, public policy, and investments. Over 45 refereed articles have been published in journals like the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and Journal of Empirical Finance. His work explores topics such as market frictions, credit card processing, mortgage pricing discrimination, and angel investor behavior.

His research has been featured in the Wall Street Journal and Quest (University of Tennessee's research publication). Notable recognition includes the 2007 Southern Finance Association Best Empirical Paper Award. He has spoken at major conferences, civic groups, and prestigious venues like the Chautauqua Institution (2011-2012).

Professional activities include editorial board memberships and service on the Academic Board of Directors of the Midwest Finance Association. His work bridges academic research with practical policy implications in banking, financial regulation, and small business financing.
