Dr. Rami Olwan is a Lecturer in Business Law and Intellectual Property at Curtin Law School, Faculty of Business and Law, Curtin University. He holds postgraduate degrees and a PhD in intellectual property and internet law from Australia, United States, and United Kingdom institutions. Previously, he taught at University of Southern Queensland and University of Sharjah, and practiced law in the United Arab Emirates.
His research focuses on international copyright law, intellectual property in developing countries, digital technologies, and internet law. Key areas include copyright reform, IP management for SMEs, and indigenous knowledge protection. Publications analyze legal frameworks in Arab Gulf states and comparative approaches to fair use exceptions.
Dr. Olwan has received numerous awards including the Global Congress on Intellectual Property scholarship and ARC Centre research funding. He consults for WIPO Academy and previously led Creative Commons Middle East.
