Ramazan ERDEM

Ramazan ERDEM is an Associate Professor at Kastamonu University's Araç Vocational School, where he serves in the Forestry and Forest Products Program. He has been working at Kastamonu University since 2011, initially as an Instructor, then as a Doctoral Faculty Member from 2020-2025, and currently as an Associate Professor since 2025. During his tenure, he also served as Department Head in 2023. His extensive teaching portfolio includes courses such as Forestry Knowledge, Map Science, Soil Science, Forestry Law, Wood Pests, and Forest Cadastre Information, demonstrating his comprehensive expertise across forestry disciplines.

Dr. ERDEM holds dual PhDs: one in Forest Engineering from Kastamonu University (2012-2018) with a dissertation on "Determination of Sedimentation from Forest Roads Using the International Soil Loss Equation (Kastamonu/Araç region)," and another in Surveying and Cadastre from Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa (2011-2021). He also earned a Master's Degree in Surveying and Cadastre from Istanbul University (2007-2011), a BSc in Forest Engineering from Istanbul University (2002-2007), an Associate Degree in Management and Organization from Karabük University (2018-2021), and a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety from Istanbul University (2020-2023).

His primary research focuses on Soil Science and Ecology, with particular emphasis on environmental pollution monitoring using forest ecosystems. Dr. ERDEM has pioneered research on using specific tree species as biomonitors for air pollution, investigating elements such as silicon, lithium, niobium, germanium, and various heavy metals. His work examines how pollutant concentrations vary by tree species, plant organs, and soil depth, providing valuable insights into pollution patterns and forest ecosystem responses.

Analysis of his recent publication record reveals a clear research trajectory centered on dendrochemical analysis for environmental assessment. His studies span air pollution monitoring, soil chemistry, and physiological responses of forest ecosystems to anthropogenic stressors. A significant portion of his research examines traffic-related heavy metal accumulation in urban trees, while other studies investigate long-term pollution trends through tree ring analysis spanning decades. His international collaborations, particularly with researchers in Russia, demonstrate the global relevance of his pollution monitoring methodologies.

Dr. ERDEM has successfully secured multiple research projects throughout his career, including studies on nutrient element relationships in forest trees and soil, sedimentation from forest roads using the Universal Soil Loss Equation, capacity building for wildlife studies, and object-based image analysis in forested areas. His collaborative network is extensive, with frequent co-authorship with researchers like Hakan Şevik (13 publications), Burak Arıcak (12 publications), and Kaan Işınkaralar (7 publications), indicating strong research partnerships within Kastamonu University and beyond.
