About
Rajiv R. Ratan is a Professor of Neuroscience at the Brain and Mind Research Institute, Weill Cornell Medical College. His work bridges molecular neuroscience, neurodegeneration, and oxidative stress biology.
- M.D. and Ph.D. from New York University School of Medicine (1988)
- B.A. from Amherst College (1981)
Dr. Ratan's research focuses on oxidative stress, ferroptosis, and epigenetic regulation in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's. His lab investigates mitochondrial dysfunction, hypoxia-inducible factors (HIF), and neuroinflammatory pathways to develop novel therapeutics.
Recent publications highlight microglial senescence in tauopathy, STING agonists for stroke preconditioning, and selenium-related ferroptosis inhibition. His team explores HDAC inhibitors, Tau-IFN crosstalk, and metabolic modulators like 2-deoxyglucose.
Awarded Clinical and Translational Science Center (UL1) funding (2022-2027) as Co-Investigator. Holds proprietary interest in NeuroNasal LLC and serves as Consultant for Elevian Inc.
