About
Raja Angamuthu is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), specializing in inorganic synthesis, bioinspired catalysis, and organometallic chemistry. His research focuses on understanding and mimicking the active sites of metalloenzymes such as hydrogenases, carbon monoxide dehydrogenases, and acireductone dioxygenases to develop small-molecule catalysts for energy and environmental applications.
Education:
- PhD (2009), Leiden University, Netherlands – Thesis: "Structural and functional models for [NiFe] hydrogenase"
- M.Sc., Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli
- B.Sc., Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli
Research Interests:
His work spans inorganic synthesis, bioinspired catalysis, organometallic chemistry of metalloenzymes, and electrocatalytic activation of CO₂ and SO₂. He leads the Laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Bio-Inspired Catalysis (LISBIC), aiming to develop catalysts for:
- Reversible CO₂/CO interconversion
- C–C bond cleavage
- Methane activation
- Hydrogen evolution
- SO₂ sequestration
Scientific Awards:
- Young Scientist Research Award, DAE
- RUBICON Independent Postdoctoral Fellowship, NWO (2010–2012)
