Rainer Klump is Professor of Economics and Chair of Economic Policy at Goethe University Frankfurt since 2000, currently serving as Scientific Director of the Center for Financial Studies (appointed July 2020) and Executive Director of the House of Finance (appointed July 2022). His academic leadership includes prior roles as Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (2006-2008), Vice President of Goethe University Frankfurt (2008-2014), and Rector of the University of Luxembourg (2015-2017).
His research critically examines economic growth and development, economic policy frameworks, and international monetary systems, with current projects analyzing sustainable finance strategies, automation's impact on innovation/growth, monetary system evolution in complex environments, and long-term German financial history trends. These investigations bridge theoretical economics with real-world policy applications across global contexts.
As a Principal Investigator for the Cluster of Excellence "The Formation of Normative Orders" since 2008, Klump contributes to interdisciplinary research on societal normative structures, leveraging extensive fieldwork in Vietnam and academic collaborations across Washington DC, Paris, Lyon, and Shanghai.
