Assistant Professor · Pulmonary Hypertension
University of California, San FranciscoAbout
Dr. Rahul Kumar is Assistant Professor of Medicine at UCSF, focusing on pulmonary vascular diseases. His research investigates immune mechanisms driving pulmonary hypertension (PH), particularly hypoxic PH and Schistosomiasis-associated PH. Using murine models and translational approaches, he examines myeloid cell contributions to vascular remodeling and inflammation.
His research integrates immunology, vascular biology, and parasitology to understand macrophage and T-cell roles in PH pathogenesis. Current projects explore metabolic reprogramming in vascular cells, hypoxia signaling in immune cells, and novel therapeutic strategies targeting inflammation. Field studies examine genetic and inflammatory signatures in high-altitude PH.
