Raghda El-Behaedi

Raghda El-Behaedi is an Assistant Professor of Mediterranean Archaeology at the University of Missouri. She directs the Memphis Kom el-Fakhry Archaeological Project (MKAP) and specializes in remote sensing applications for cultural heritage.

She holds a PhD in Egyptian Archaeology from the University of Chicago (2024), an MA from Chicago (2019), and a BA from UNC Wilmington (2017).

Research Approach: El-Behaedi uses satellite imagery, GIS, and 3D modeling to study ancient Egyptian settlement patterns and hydraulic landscapes. Her work addresses climate impacts on archaeological sites and preservation challenges.

Field Projects: Co-discoverer of the Ahramat Nile Branch (Nature Communications 2024), she has excavated at Tell Edfu, Hermopolis Magna, and Deir el-Bahri. MKAP investigates Memphis’ urban development.

Recognition: A National Geographic Explorer, she develops educational outreach on cultural preservation in Egypt.
