Raffi Garcia is an Associate Professor of Finance and Accounting at the Lally School of Management, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). His research focuses on financial economics, empirical industrial organization, and the effects of regulations and shocks on firm/individual behavior. He holds a PhD in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University (2018), an M.A. in Economics from Vanderbilt University, and a B.A. in Economics from Boston College.
Prof. García’s research explores how regulations (e.g., banking stress tests) and unexpected events (e.g., mass shootings, climate disasters) influence corporate tax strategies, labor markets, and financial systems. His work has been published in top journals like the Journal of Law and Economics, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Journal of Financial Stability. He has received grants from institutions including the National Science Foundation and the Rosenberg Institute.
His awards include the AEA Economics Mentoring Travel Grant (2021) and dissertation fellowships from the American Economic Association and American Society of Hispanic Economists (ASHE). Prior to RPI, he served as adjunct faculty at Brandeis University and Boston College.
