Raffaella Ghittoni serves as an Associate Professor (Teaching) in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Southern California, actively engaged in the HHMI Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program.
Her research and teaching focus on:
- Microbial genomics and bacteriophage discovery
- Evolutionary biology applications in education
- Undergraduate science pedagogy development
- Host-pathogen interaction studies using Arthrobacter globiformis
Since Fall 2021, she has co-instructed multiple SEA-PHAGES sections (13191/13191R/13192R), guiding 16 freshmen/sophomores per semester in hands-on phage isolation and genomic analysis through 3-hour weekly laboratory sessions. Her work demonstrates consistent commitment to experiential learning in microbiology education.
