About
Rafail Georgiou is a PhD student and Associate Lecturer at the Lancaster Environment Centre, Lancaster University. His research focuses on investigating wastewater treatment plants as sources of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) pollution in surface waters and their environmental impacts. Combining GIS-based environmental modeling with laboratory analyses, his work addresses chemical fate in river and estuarine ecosystems.
His professional experience includes roles as a technical and environmental audits engineer, a research assistant intern at the University of Cyprus, and an associate researcher at the University of Aegean (Greece) under the ZeroPM program. There, he conducted HPLC analyses of micropollutants in wastewater and sewage sludge samples.
Key technical skills include wastewater management, fluid mechanics, mathematical modeling, ecotoxicology, programming, and spatial modeling. His research interests span industrial chemicals, persistent organic pollutants, and risk assessment methodologies.
