Rafael A. Adrian is Professor of Chemistry and Jones Endowed Chair at the University of the Incarnate Word. He holds a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Baylor University and completed postdoctoral training at University of Houston and University of Texas at San Antonio.
His research focuses on designing novel metallic compounds with potential antitumor applications, specifically investigating how structural features of metal complexes influence cytotoxicity. Professor Adrian aims to develop more effective, selective, and affordable chemotherapeutic agents through metal-ligand synergy studies.
He teaches courses across the chemistry curriculum including Chemical Principles, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and advanced topics in coordination chemistry. Professor Adrian maintains active membership in professional societies including the American Chemical Society, American Crystallographic Association, and Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science.
