Rachel Varra is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures and Linguistics at the College of William and Mary. Previously, she served as Director of the Spanish Language Program at the University of Miami. She holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the Graduate Center, CUNY (2013). Her research focuses on sociolinguistics, Spanish in the U.S., bilingual language processing, and second language pedagogy. Her notable work includes the book Lexical Borrowing and Deborrowing in Spanish in New York City (2018), which examines the social correlates of lexical use in immigrant contexts.
