Prof. Rachel Sarig serves as Associate Professor and Head of the Maurice and Gabriela Goldschleger School of Dental Medicine at Tel Aviv University's Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. She also holds a research position at the Shmunis Family Anthropology Institute and the Dan David Center for Human Evolution and Biohistory Research.
Her research focuses on dental anthropology and the evolutionary aspects of the human masticatory system. She investigates how evolutionary constraints have led to modern dental issues such as malocclusions and periodontal diseases, using microCT scans and clinical studies on prehistoric and modern populations. Her work spans human evolution, paleopathology, and biological anthropology to inform better dental treatments.
Prof. Sarig is affiliated with the Dan David Center for Human Evolution and Biohistory Research and the Shmunis Family Anthropology Institute, where she leads studies on dental evolution and biomechanics.
