Rachel Pries

Dr. Rachel Pries is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Colorado State University. She specializes in arithmetic geometry, blending number theory and algebraic geometry to explore moduli spaces of curves and abelian varieties, and Galois theory for curves. Her research has applications in coding theory.

• She is an editor for Research in Number Theory and Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society.
• Organizer of the number theory lab and FRAGMENT seminar.

Education:

• Brown University (1994), advised by Jeffrey Hoffstein and Joseph Silverman.
• University of Pennsylvania (2000), PhD advised by David Harbater.
• Postdoctoral work at Columbia University (2003).

Her teaching includes courses on abstract algebra, number theory, calculus, and coding theory. She was on sabbatical in 2023-2024 and previously at other institutions (2016-2017, 2009-2010).
