Rachel M. Atkins is an Assistant Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics and Finance at St. John's University, part of the Peter J. Tobin College of Business. She holds a PhD in Public and Urban Policy from The New School, an MPA from New York University, and an MGA in Economic Development from the University of Pennsylvania, alongside a BS in Economics from West Chester University.
Her research focuses on racial economic inequality, particularly in entrepreneurship, innovation, and high-technology industries. Her work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Urban Economics, Small Business Economics, and the Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship. She is committed to student engagement in research and applying economic tools to address societal challenges.
Teaching interests include Microeconomics, Public Economics, Urban Economics, and Research Methods. She teaches courses such as Principles of Economics II (ECO 1302) and Economics of Race (ECO 3308).
