Dr. Rachel Krantz is a Professor of French at Shepherd University, affiliated with the Department of English and Modern Languages. She joined the faculty in 2004 and specializes in 19th- and 20th-century French literature, French and Francophone culture, and film studies. Her research focuses on French filmmaker Anne Fontaine and feminist cinematic narratives. Dr. Krantz holds an M.A. from the University of Munich (1993) and a Ph.D. in French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (dissertation on Marguerite Duras). She has published in The Rocky Mountain Review and Situating the Feminist Gaze, and edited Practical Approaches to Teaching Film (2009). Beyond academia, she enjoys cooking, gardening, and exploring Appalachia.
