Rachel Hall is a Professor of English and Creative Writing at the State University of New York at Geneseo, where she has taught since 1993. She holds an M.F.A. from Indiana University, where she received the Hemingway Fellowship. Her research and creative focus centers on fiction writing, literary publishing, and narrative techniques. She advises the Gandy Dancer literary journal and teaches advanced publishing courses (ENGL 426/428).
Her work has been published in journals such as Bellingham Review, Crab Orchard Review, and Gettysburg Review. Awards include the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and the BkMk Press G.S. Sharat Chandra Prize for her story collection Heirlooms (2016). Her story La Poussette won the Lilith Fiction Prize in 2016.
Her courses emphasize hands-on publishing: students collaborate on editorial committees, design, and marketing for Gandy Dancer. She integrates creative writing pedagogy with practical publishing skills.
