Rachel Emling

Rachel Emling is an Instructor in the Department of English at Arizona State University, Tempe campus. She is a PhD candidate in English (Literature) and serves as a Graduate Teaching Associate. Her research focuses on medieval literature, particularly the representation of hospitality in The South English Legendary, as explored in her dissertation titled Hosting Humans, Angels, and Demons: Saintly Hospitality in The South English Legendary. She has taught courses including ENG 101, ENG 102, and ENG 105, receiving consistently high student evaluations.

In Fall 2022, she was honored with the Graduate Professional and Student Association's Teaching Excellence Award. Beyond academia, she engages in woodworking and fiber arts. Her work bridges medieval religious texts and contemporary literary analysis, with a focus on intersections of hospitality, identity, and cultural narratives.
