Dr. Rachel Dickinson is a Reader in Interdisciplinary Studies/English at Manchester Metropolitan University, specializing in nineteenth-century literature and culture with a focus on John Ruskin's influence and textiles. She holds an MA in Shakespeare Studies from UCL and a PhD from Lancaster University on Ruskin's letters.
Her research examines textiles as models for sustainable societies and political economy, drawing on Ruskin's vision of interconnected social structures. Current projects investigate Ruskin's textile metaphors and their application to contemporary sustainability challenges.
As Master of the Guild of St George (Ruskin-founded arts/crafts charity), she oversees heritage projects including 'Ruskin in the Wyre'. She serves on editorial boards for Victorian studies journals and has judged the John Ruskin Art Prize.
