Rachel Avery

Rachel Avery is an Associate Professor (Education) and Deputy Dean (Education) at Durham Law School, serving as Director of Education. She holds a Double First Class Honours degree from Trinity College, Cambridge, and an LLM from UC Berkeley. A Senior Fellow of the HEA and RSA Fellow, she practices in Employment and Commercial Law.

Research interests focus on Commercial Law and Employment Law. Her professional roles include module leader for Commercial Law, co-convenor of the First Generation Scholars Group, and membership in the Law School Employability Board and Alumni Association Executive Committee.

Award-winning for EDI efforts (2023), she previously served as Judicial Assistant to Lady Hale (2005-2006) and intern at the San Francisco Public Defender. Active in outreach since 2022 as Law School lead, emphasizing school programs.

Teaching areas: Commercial and Employment Law. Part-time faculty since 2010.

Community roles: Governor of Bearpark Primary School and Chair of 21st Gateshead Sea Scouts Group.
