About
Dr. Rachael Rigby is a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical and Life Sciences at Lancaster University's Faculty of Health and Medicine. Her research investigates intestinal epithelial regeneration, focusing on SOCS proteins as natural regulators of inflammation and cancer. Examines microbiome-epithelial interactions using multidisciplinary approaches combining immunology, microbiology, and cancer biology.
Current projects include NWCR-funded studies on antibiotic-induced weight loss mechanisms (2022-2024) and microbiota impacts on immunity. Research employs molecular and cellular techniques to analyze microbial influences on epithelial repair pathways.
Engages extensively in academic service: PhD examinations (Bath/Manchester), journal editing (Gut Microbes), and public outreach through UlverSTEM festivals and school visits. Teaches masterclasses in biomedicine.
