Dr. Rachael Ohu serves as a Lecturer and Director of the WE Engage! (Women Engineers Engaging the World) program within the William States Lee College of Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She teaches foundational courses including ENGR 1303 (Engineering Visualization and Graphical Communication), ENGR 1100, and ENGR 1201 to first-year engineering students.
Her educational background comprises a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Water Resources Engineering, followed by a Master of Science (2008) and Doctor of Philosophy (2013) in Structural Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Dr. Ohu's research focuses on structural strengthening and rehabilitation of reinforced concrete structures, informed by her industry experience as a site structural engineering consultant in Abuja, Nigeria. Her work bridges academic theory with practical applications in multi-story structural design.
As Director of WE Engage!, she provides dedicated mentoring for female engineering students through targeted career guidance and academic support. Her advising philosophy emphasizes holistic development and career-path exploration based on individual strengths and interests.
Prior to UNC Charlotte, she served as a part-time instructor and Advising and Career Specialist at Montana State University, Billings, where she guided pre-engineering students in academic and professional development.
