Rabi Mohtar is a TEES Research Professor at Texas A&M University, affiliated with the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences and College of Engineering. He is also Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the American University of Beirut (AUB). His research focuses on the Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus, soil-water dynamics, and sustainable water management. Mohtar holds a B.Sc. from the American University of Beirut (1983), M.Sc. degrees from Michigan State University (1985, 1992), and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Technology and Systems Management (1994).
Key achievements include founding Texas A&M’s WEF Nexus Initiative and AUB’s WEF-Health Nexus Renewable Resources Initiative. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) and has received accolades such as the Ven Te Chow Memorial Lecture (IWRA, 2015) and Distinguished Alumnus (AUB, 2013). His work spans global policy frameworks, climate change adaptation, and interdisciplinary collaboration through roles at the World Water Council and IWRA Executive Board.
Research interests emphasize nexus approaches for resource security, non-traditional water applications, and SDG implementation. Recent projects include assessing water scarcity in Texas, soil recovery in post-industrial sites, and AI-driven soil remediation studies.
