R.T. Smith

R.T. Smith is a writer in residence and lecturer in the English Department at Washington and Lee University, where he also serves as editor of the literary journal Shenandoah. He teaches creative writing and has published extensively in poetry and fiction. His work often explores Appalachian themes, blending mythic narratives with contemporary cultural contexts.

Smith has received notable awards, including the 2017 William Peden Fiction Prize for his story "The Satans" and two Library of Virginia Book of the Year Awards. His poem "Maricon" was featured in Best American Poems 2017.
