Dr. Qing Lu is a Senior Lecturer at the Hull University Business School, part of the University of Hull's Faculty of Business, Law and Politics. She joined in 2009 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2024. Previously, she worked at Sunderland Business School. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Dundee (2005), supported by an Overseas Research Students Award. Her research focuses on the internationalization of business, blending business history with strategic analysis. Key themes include post-acquisition integration, international joint ventures, government-business relationships, and transaction costs. She has published in leading journals like Business History and Enterprise & Society, and secured research grants. She supervises PhD students in international business topics.
Her work explores organizational structures such as inter-organizational collaboration and parent-subsidiary dynamics. Notable projects include analyzing HSBC's expansion strategies in the UK and US, and examining unintended terminations of international joint ventures. She is affiliated with the Marketing, Management and Business Strategy group and contributes to the 'Business and Logistics' research theme.
Dr. Lu teaches modules on International Business and Strategy. She has supervised PhD candidates including Benjamin Pepperell (2025), J.S. Kiria (2017), and A. Calleja (2013). Recent research includes a project on legitimizing unintended IJV terminations (2022–2024). Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary strategic challenges, offering insights into global business dynamics.
