About
Dr. Qianqi Lin is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecules & Materials at the University of Twente's Faculty of Science and Technology, affiliated with the MESA+ Institute for BRAINS & Molecules Center. She joined in August 2022 to develop molecular opto-electronics for nanoreactors using in-situ spectroscopic techniques.
Education:
- MChem in Chemistry, University of Oxford, UK
- PhD in Electrochemistry, University of Oxford, UK
- Postdoctoral Research in Nanophotonics, University of Cambridge, UK
Her research spans Electrochemistry, NanoPhotonics, and Plasmonics with focus on light-matter interactions at molecular scales. She pioneers in-situ/operando electrochemical Raman spectroscopy enabling single-molecule detection of redox transitions, bond dynamics, and radical cations. Her work bridges fundamental electrochemistry with applications in molecular electronics and nanoreactor design.
Publications (2013-2023) reveal a trajectory from foundational electrochemistry to cutting-edge nanophotonic applications, featuring breakthroughs in plasmonic pixel fabrication, organic semiconductor doping analysis, and vaccine-related spectral tools. Key themes include ultra-sensitive detection methods and nanoscale interfacial phenomena.
Scientific Awards:
- Top Downloaded Article Award from Wiley
Dr. Lin established the NanoPlasmonics course for MSc Applied Physics and tutors Conceptual Modelling for BSc Chemical Science & Engineering. She designs high-school research projects, serves as Outreach Scientist for the Oxford Chili Conference teaching electrochemical capsaicin sensors, and led public dialogues on nanotechnology for the UK Environment Department. Her Agilent Technologies/WHO collaboration developed automated spectral analysis tools.
She leads the Hybrid Materials for Opto-Electronics group within the MESA+ Institute, organizing NWO NextGenChem@NL 2025 and the VU-UT Molecular Science Hackathon while serving on NWO Physics 2025 committees.
