Qi Wang

Qi Wang is an Associate Professor at the School of Literature, Media, and Communication within the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at Georgia Institute of Technology. Their research focuses on East Asian cinema, French cinema, colonialism studies, film theory, and aesthetics. They hold a Ph.D. in Film and Television from UCLA (2008), an M.S. in Comparative Media Studies from MIT (2002), and prior degrees from Peking University.

Research interests include Chinese-language cinema, Japanese and French comparative studies, and Northeast China's cultural representation. Their first book, Memory, Subjectivity and Independent Chinese Cinema (2014), examines post-1990 Chinese independent films. Current projects explore poetics of space in East Asian cinema and Japanese/French cinema comparisons. They have curated events like the 2008 REEL CHINA Documentary Biennial.

Publications span positions: asia critique, Asian Cinema, and Journal of Chinese Cinemas. Their work bridges film studies, cultural history, and transnational media analysis.
