Pushpi Bagchi

Dr Pushpi Bagchi is a Principal Designer at the Edinburgh Futures Institute (University of Edinburgh), where she specializes in using design for social innovation. She leads co-creation initiatives through design and futures methodologies, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations with partners across EFI’s ecosystem.

• PhD in Design and MA in Graphic Design from the University of Edinburgh
• Expertise: Visual communication, human-centred design, participatory methodologies, critical theory
• Experience in education, creative industries, and third sectors across Sri Lanka, India, and the UK

Her research investigates participatory and systems design, pluriversality, transnationalism, and how cultural contexts challenge universal design assumptions. She contributes to the Futures and Design Team, developing toolkits grounded in futures thinking and design practices to drive challenge-led innovation.

The Edinburgh Futures Institute’s Innovation Service, which includes the Futures and Design Team, supports interdisciplinary research and collaboration. Pushpi’s work bridges design theory with practical applications, emphasizing cultural nuance and transnational perspectives.
