Prottoy Aman Akbar

Prottoy Aman Akbar is an Assistant Professor in Economics of Transportation at Aalto University and Helsinki Graduate School of Economics. He holds a Research Affiliate position at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), specializing in International Trade and Regional Economics. He completed his Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Pittsburgh in 2021.

His research explores:

• Urban residential sorting patterns
• Economic costs of intra/inter-city mobility
• Interactions between urban development and transportation systems

Methodologically, he pioneers the use of non-traditional data sources including web-scraped navigation app data and digitized historical maps to address research questions in data-constrained environments.
